The story of Creations by Mumpa begins with a young girl named Sumana, affectionately called “Mumpa”, who carried a quiet dream in her heart—a dream woven with colours, fabrics, and the world of fashion. Even in her high school days, while others saw textbooks, she saw patterns; while others prepared for exams, she imagined sarees, handloom textures, and designs that spoke without words.
But like many daughters of a traditional Bengali household, her path was guided more by expectations than desires. A bright student, a consistent topper—academics naturally became her destiny. Fashion remained a passion tucked away safely within.
Years passed, and Sumana grew into a respected high school teacher, admired by students and colleagues alike. Yet every day, somewhere deep inside, that artistic voice kept whispering:
There is more you are meant to create.
To keep her passion breathing, she started a small online page. Just a hobby at first—simple photos, simple posts. But creativity has its way of finding the right eyes. Slowly, women began noticing her taste, her curation, her sense of style. What began as a pastime began to grow into something much bigger.
Then came 2012—the year that changed everything. With her husband’s unwavering faith and an initial support of ₹2 lakhs, she stood at a crossroads: continue the safe, secure job… or leap into her dream.
She chose courage.
Leaving behind the comfort of her teaching career, Sumana stepped into an unknown world—armed with nothing but passion, resilience, and an eye for beauty.
The journey that followed was far from easy. She travelled to remote villages to sit with weavers, understanding looms, yarns, dyes, and centuries-old techniques. She spent hours researching colours, experimenting with brushwork, creating new fusion ideas, and stitching concepts that had never been attempted before. She dealt with customers personally—every message, every order, every concern. With each challenge, she only grew stronger.
Slowly, her creativity blossomed into what we now proudly call Signature Creations, exclusive designs that redefined fusion sarees and placed the brand on the map.
Today, Sumana works with thousands of artisans across India, helping them preserve their craft while bringing soulful, innovative creations to women across the country. She transforms every saree into a story, every weave into emotion, and every design into a connection between tradition and modernity.
Her vision remains beautifully simple: To make every woman feel confident, beautiful, and connected to India’s heritage through a drape that carries love, artistry, and soul. From a little online page to a beloved national brand, Sumana’s journey continues.
